After living here for 6 years I sometimes forget to notice all of the things that made me fall in love with this place the first time I visited. I can get caught up in the fact that we live 'in the middle of nowhere' (which we do), instead I often take for granted how beautiful this place really is.
I am torn between the idea of moving on, finding new adventures and making a new home; and this place, where I started my career, we fell in love, where we welcomed Eamon home and where we have so many friends.
I never intended to be here this long. I thought, 'three years and I'll be back at the coast'. I remember when I first moved, all the locals told me - 'oh you'll marry a local and you'll never leave'. I laughed at them at the time, but I guess they got the last laugh.
We will move on, at some point. But for now I will remind myself to appreciate this place, for all that it gives us. This afternoon Eamon and walked around town, slow and aimlessly because I was tired and he was cranky and the weather wasn't the best. And occasionally we stopped to just watch, or play, and take photos.

Lovely scenery, I never expected to be here forever either, but here I am.

ReplyDeleteI don't know exactly where you live in Austalia but I did travel the entire Eastern coast for about 4 months and I loved the tiny little towns. I spent 2 weeks in Tathra. A tiny town on teh eastern coast:) loved it!
Thanks Hanna, I grew up on the east coast. Now I live in Western QLD.
DeleteThat church is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI have been in Brisbane for six years now too.
And I definitely have itchy feet!
I have never lived anywhere for this long and while I still love Brisbane I keep thinking about what life would be like elsewhere.
I often imagine what it would be like to live in the middle of nowhere!
That church is bright!
DeleteWhere do you think you'd go?
I live in Dubbo in NSW and as a teenager I vowed I would make the great escape.... Well I did a years stint as a nanny in the US, came home, and have never thought of leaving again! I like big cities but can't imagine living in one, especially with a family....
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how that usually works. Even as I am ready to leave now, I would never say we wouldn't be back.
