Road Trippin'...

So this weekend we have spent over 10 hours in the car driving to and from Moura for my sister-in-law Michelle's 30th.

Needless to say Eamon didn't appreciate being in the car for this long, especially as he was running a temperature the whole time we were there and didn't actually get to enjoy playing with his cousins.

Saturday morning and the trip there was a comedy of errors. I forgot to say happy birthday to Andrew when we first woke up. (best wife ever.) We forgot bedding, had to go back. We forgot wipes, had to buy some over-priced servo variety, the ones I bought ended up having alcohol in them, uhh no. We order breakfast and coffee, somehow our order was put to the bottom of the pile, then they did it wrong. In the end we didn't even want the coffee. We gained a chip in our windscreen from a truck and to top it all off, when we arrived Eamon was sick (maybe teething temps again, not sure) in 43 degree heat. Awesome. (First world problems, but still...)

Most of the afternoon was spent lazing around because it was too hot to move. At 5pm we all started getting dressed in our costumes (M themed party). There was Mary Poppins, Men in Black, a Mighty Morphin' Power Ranger, a Maid, Mary had a little lamb, Mexicans, a Mechanic, a Mermaid, (a sad sick little) Mickey Mouse, Miss Universe, Mario, Matchbox 20 and more...

The closest thing we got to a smile all day.

Sad Mickey :(

(Little) Men in Black.

After a photo to prove we really did dress up, many jumped and were tossed in the jelly pit. I missed out, even though I was threatened a number of times. Instead I was with Eamon who didn't want to be put down, didn't want to sleep, didn't want to sit, didn't want to stand... The only time he was happy was when I showed him a balloon, which then popped in his face, he then screamed and nothing would calm him.

The kids got in first, unfortunately I have no photos of the adults, but I'm sure one of the 100 cameras that were there does?!

Many other games were played...limbo, hay jumping, bubble blowing contests... I spent most of the night with one ear listening for Eamon as he slept fitfully, so I was mostly only a spectator, but it was definitely entertaining to watch.

The next morning our little rooster decided we should get up early as he was feeling better (except for being very tired from very little sleep). We left after brekky and headed home. Our trip home was mostly uneventful (thankfully). I slept and entertained Eamon, Andrew insisted on driving (hmmm?)

Regardless of all the things that went wrong, we had a great time. We managed to laugh through most of it and played silly car games to entertain ourselves.  It was just a shame we couldn't stay longer.

But at the same time I am so thankful to be home. I really wish it didn't, but most of the time traveling with a babe just makes me wonder why?

  1. I am sorry that he was sick...but even feeling a bit under the weather he is still the cutest Mickey Mouse ever!

  2. I definitely sounds like your trip started out as a comedy of errors--but the party looks like so much fun, too!

  3. Following from the GFC blog hop! How adorable is your little boy! Even if he wasn't feeling too well, he makes a fantastic Mickey :) Awesome party theme!

  4. Sounds like it was a tad exhausting! I am always excited to go away but it's such a different experience with kids, sometimes it's far more relaxing at home. Hope he is feeling better now.
